Description

:bulletblue: UPDATE: I added in the rest of her feet and fixed the arm length as much as I could without destroying everything. I couldn't touch the knees---not without drawing and rescanning. My time is limited, but I plan to draw more her her in the future.

Jessie's been a month long job (on and off, of course). I didn't get around to coloring her until early in the morning and I've been on her all day. It was fun to get away from regular work for a while. Now, this is going to be submitted to Mr. Marcus' Ebony Experience Expose Jam, which is a tribute to African-American women in comics and science fiction. I liked the intent behind the Jam. I really don't have any black characters in my gallery. Maybe a few?

I figure I might as well give you folks a little history of Advent.

Nathan Bishop is the vigilante known simply as Bad Omen. He’s one of the few who don't have any special powers. He's from the school of hard knocks, so to speak. Most of his crime fighting genius was developed on the mean streets and dark alleys of Chicago. I guess you can call him an unknown, but he likes it like that.

Bad Omen had relations with a Jasmine Tyler, an old flame who was on the opposite side of the law. 9 months later, across the Atlantic, Jessica was born. Omen was none the wiser and Jasmine couldn't be happier. Jessica grew up normally in London, England, excelling in her studies and growing popular among her peers. Shortly after her 16th birthday, Jessica developed superpowers. Shortly after confronting her mother, she learned the truth about her father, Nathan Bishop.

Jessica always had a feeling something was missing in her life. She believed her father was that missing piece, so she sets a course for North America after graduating from school. Optimistic thoughts filled her head like bubbles while she was on flight. After landing in Chicago, it took months for her to find her father. When she finally tracked him down, all the optimistic bubbles of a warm embrace were thoroughly busted.

She dropped the bomb about being his long lost daughter and Bad Omen didn't take it well. Naturally, he's a gruff, tough-as-nails, bad ass. To him, Jessica is an unwanted distraction. Of course, she did fly all the way over from England to see him, so he made space for her to crash. Thanks to the constant nagging of Hustle 'N Flo*, Omen let's Jessica join his crusade against crime---on a trial basis. Her relationship with her father is rocky, but they learn to tolerate each other.

*Hustle 'N Flo is a teenaged crime fighting duo who regularly teams up with Bad Omen. Hustle is the tough, street smart brawler with an attitude. Flo is the opposite, cool, calm and collective. He usually keeps Hustle in check. They are the unofficial sidekicks of Bad Omen. He doesn't acknowledge them, but he can admit that they come in handy...sometimes. Usually he has to give them a swift kick up the ass.

Extra tidbits:

- Bad Omen is kind of a silly name for a vigilante/crime fighter, but if you can have a guy go around as "Kick-Ass", it's not too bad. You can call him "Omen" for short.

- Years later, after spending some time with Bad Omen, Advent goes public with her identity. This puts a bigger strain on their relationship, but she manages to keep his identity secret. Since Omen is a masked crime fighter, the public is none the wiser.

- Since Advent was born and raised in England, she has a nice English accent. According to an old friend, there's nothing sexier than a black woman with a British accent. Heh.

- Advent's powers are somewhat of a mystery. Both of her parents are powerless, so she's clueless as tohow she acquired it.

I really like this concept piece. You've really thought out your character, and have detailed her storyline in a quick and orderly way on the side of the page, which I like. I also like the fact that you've pulled the main three colors of her outfit to the side so it can easily be seen as well. Now, what I think could use a little work are her legs. There's something about the way her knees are bent that seems unnatural. Her feet are pointed in completely different directions than her knees are facing. What I suggest is using either a positioning program such as Poser, or a manequin/friend to help you out with the positioning. Otherwise, I really like the picture, and all the information that you've provided us on her background. Good job!
